Luxe Living
Few places in Charlotte have changed as much in a generation as Ballantyne. What began as a family hunting tract on the South Carolina line has become one of the Southeast’s best-known business addresses, and it is now evolving again into a walkable district with dining, music, and green space at its center.
The Setting
Ballantyne covers roughly 2,000 acres in the far south of Charlotte, beside the South Carolina border. Johnny Harris and Smoky Bissell launched Ballantyne Corporate Park in 1992, and The Ballantyne Hotel followed in 2001. In 2017 Northwood Investors bought the corporate park for $1.2 billion, at the time the largest real estate transaction in Charlotte’s history, and began transforming it under the name Ballantyne Reimagined.
The Architecture
Ballantyne’s homes span a wide range, from townhomes and newer residences to established single-family neighborhoods and estate homes on larger lots. The most distinguished homes sit in its established club and estate enclaves, including Ballantyne Country Club. Because Ballantyne varies so much street by street, knowing which neighborhoods and homesites hold their value matters more here than almost anywhere in Charlotte.
The Amenities
- The Bowl at Ballantyne: a new dining and retail district at the heart of the campus
- TD Amp Ballantyne: an outdoor amphitheater that opened in 2023
- Stream Park: six acres of green space behind The Ballantyne Hotel
- The Ballantyne Hotel: South Charlotte’s landmark luxury hotel
- A Wegmans grocery store: scheduled to open in October 2026
The Location
- Home to Ballantyne Corporate Park, with more than 4 million square feet of Class A office space and headquarters for companies such as Dentsply Sirona and Curtiss-Wright
- Direct access to I-485, with a new Express Lanes connector to Johnston Road
- About 15 miles to Uptown Charlotte
- Minutes from Marvin, Waxhaw, and the South Carolina line
- Served by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (check current school assignments for each address), with well-regarded private schools nearby
Who It Suits
Ballantyne suits executives who want a short commute to its corporate campuses, families who want newer homes close to good schools and shopping, and relocating buyers who want an established, convenient address with a growing social and cultural scene.
A Private Conversation
Ballantyne is not one market but many. Neighborhood, lot, age of home, and proximity to the new district all shape value. I would welcome a private conversation about the homes and homesites that fit the way you live.
